Imari Sensei - Drift

2/4/2020

IYC knows your time is sacred and you won't be wasting it when you listen to this soulfully edgy track, sung and written by Imari Sensei titled Drift.

The moment you press play, numerous comparisons such as Jhene, Solange, Ari Lennox and SZA flood through the mind however, Imari Sensei is in a lane of her own and she isn't afraid to own it.

From her soulfully smooth vocals that shimmer over the bass and trumpet filled beat, all the way to the exuberant style she flaunts, Imari Sensei presents authentic artistry.

Written in just under 2 hours, Imari explains that Drift wrote itself.

"When I wrote this song, I really wanted to silence some of my haters or 'frenemies' who were already really submerged in the music industry but were showing me no love whatsoever. All that hating is low vibrational, and I want to show them the light, which is love. I already had the feeling I was a total badass songwriter but I had to show myself too.
Thus Drift was born".

And a total bad ass she is, specifically a lyrically emotional bad ass.

"I’ve always been an emotional person, like extremely emotional. When I was a child those emotions were mainly sadness, anger, resentment, loneliness, and I would drown it all out to Gwen Stefani, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy or something loud and rebellious. I’ve never felt emotionally supported by others; I feel like most people are somewhat emotionally unavailable due to their own trauma, but that’s another story".

Music has always been her safe place to emote, to feel and to create.

"I want people to take some light from this song, to embrace themselves, to love themselves, to forget about outside validation and to gas themselves up because if you can’t love yourself, how can you love somebody else? That’s what this life is about, spreading love. Can I get an Amen?". **AMEN**

Her inspirations span from Ari Lennox to Tinashe, but more notably Nashville based artist's Bryant Taylorr and Que Parks have inspired Imari to "keep working towards my dreams - it’s all about mindset".

With 4 EP's on the way, visuals including a short film, cute merchandise and upcoming mic bonfire events, this summer is about to be where it's at with Imari Sensei, and you can keep up to date with it all via her Instagram (@imarisensei).

So in order to keep YOUR vibrations high, stream "Drift" by Imari Sensei from our In Your City Music playlist on Spotify, and choose to spread love instead of hate while on this journey called life!

NASHVILLE

"Fuck who ain't getting down,
Just ride the waves, just ride the waves,
Come drift with me,
I'll show you the light that lies between the shadows,
Come drift with me, come drift with me".
