Lunacy - Hauntingly Familiar

Melbourne, Australia

Hauntingly Familiar won't let you down, with this magnetic track right here being one hell of a breakdown by duo Lunacy.

Power couple Sallee Chatfield and Oliver Kindred (Ollie) enter your psyche with a wickedly composed instrumental and a seraphically vocal delivery. This dark tune explodes into a haunting and emotionally charged journey with melancholic melodies and reflective lyrics. Hauntingly Familiar highlights the essence of inner turmoil and mental and emotional turbulence.

Just as the piano keys reach a climax, the chorus kicks in with crashing rock-pop elements, and Sallee’s stunning combination of chest and head vocals smoothly transitions between lower and higher registers. Her voice is simultaneously fragile and powerful! Lunacy releases a vault of pent-up emotions on Hauntingly Familiar, allowing a deep resonance for individuals who've experienced complete internal overload from life's trials, tribulations, and just plain old bullsh*t.

"The writing process was a deeply introspective and cathartic journey for us. We were inspired by our own experiences during the COVID-19 lockdowns, where feelings of isolation, confusion, and fear of this 'new normal' weighed heavily on our minds. We explored the mental turmoil and desperation we felt. Ollie used to DJ at 'emo night' type clubs and EDM clubs, and we really wanted to experiment with those sounds. It's a reflection of our collective struggles and a reminder that we're not alone in these hauntingly familiar emotions." - Lunacy

Oliver worked his magic on the composed elements of the track, and Ionei Heckenberg produced the brooding beat. Ethereal synths echo and subtle electronic pop beats ring throughout the arrangement, adding to the overall atmosphere. Hauntingly Familiar is a sonic landscape that mirrors the emotional landscape of the lyrics.

"When I started DJing EDM, I would go out of my way to find remixes of emo songs that I grew up listening to. I thought it would be cool if we made an original song that had the same energy as a remix of an emo song without it sounding exactly like a remix that's exclusively played at dance clubs. We still wanted the song to stand on its own. I drew inspiration from Duane Bartolo, Haber, and Nikelondon; I was also lucky enough to share the stage with them a few years ago." - Oliver Kindred

Embodying evocative dark pop, this track demonstrates Lunacy’s brilliant talent for emotional expression, exploring their own inner demons and finding a sense of solidarity in the shared experience of struggle and healing.

Lunacy are hard at work in the studio, crafting more dark-pop gems for their upcoming EP! Until then, enjoy their current releases, such as Sad B!tch, The Hardest Thing, and, of course, the star of the show, Hauntingly Familiar (link available below).
