Los Angeles, USAWe’re back in that never-ending, very welcomed chokehold with Kia Harper's latest release. This time we’re tangled up and feeling the tension under TV Lights, featuring rapper A-Game. You know you’re in for a memorable listening experience when Kia Harper hits the studio; she’s serving sultry vocals and seductive verses over one sexy beat, and we’re pleased to say our replay button is officially broken! TV Lights is delivered fearlessly with unapologetic lyrics that dive into the depths of desire and intimacy. Kia will have your musical soul on crescendo with every high note she hits; her cusses are gentle, and her raw tone is intentional. TV Lights is about living out your fantasy; when the tension of the connection combusts and Netflix and Chill goes right, it’s the go-to track to set the mood and Kia doesn’t hold back in painting a vivid image of pleasure. Her explicit vulnerability adds a layer of detail to this fire starter. "I started talking to this guy, and we’d hang out a lot and binge watch shows or check out new movies. We weren’t intimate, but the chemistry was so intense that it became hard to focus on the TV. In my mind, I was playing out what being intimate would look like instead of paying attention to the movie. So I went home and wrote about it." - Kia Harper The production is fresh and slick, featuring a captivating blend of R&B and pop elements produced by Monigy. It’s instantly hypnotising, creating a sensual atmosphere that envelops the listener. The swift buildup in the intro expands into a late-night session of seduction. "When it came to the beat, it was a seamless process. I sat at my computer and sifted through different beats on YouTube, and I came across this one by Monigy Beats". - Kia Harper Every aspect of this track makes it hard to shake off; the chorus is undeniably catchy, and A-Game’s touch of distinctive flow, light and flirty verses, and smooth, sexy tone add to the overall appeal; his enunciation is effortless and complements his laidback delivery. These two have put on for their city, TV Lights, is the perfect balance of sensuality and musicality. The next move of Kia Harper is unknown, but one thing we do know is that she’s constantly in her creative bag, so stay tuned for her future drops and hopefully a few live performances. Atlanta, GA, USAWe’re calling it as we hear it, J $ensei has the best song of the summer, and we’ve had the pure pleasure of covering Chiki Baby, produced by Jordan Taylor and JMY. J $ensei has colourful creativity similar to the likes of The 1975, an emotive, velvety tone resembling The Weeknd, and a lively persona that's well expressed musically. Fusing Indie Pop and Disco with a touch of Hip Hop, J $ensei drips a rainbow of artistry, one where he can’t be put in a box: the box is far too small and rigid for his vibrant versatility. There’s an outline of genres that he fulfils, but in no way, shape, or form is J $ensei genre-bound, and that is evident in Chiki Baby and his overall catalogue. This is what makes his musical sauce aurally tantalising. The sound of Chiki Baby is warm and sunny; the funkadelic synths draw your attention to their curious core, vibrating in fantasy with their dreamy bedroom-disco aesthetic. It’s a tuneful of happy notes as J $ensei suavely sings about a woman undergoing an intentional, internal transformation from selflessness to self-love, one where her vision is clearer and dreams are nearer—all while dancing in a mirror! Then you hit the elongated guitar solo, and you’ve sunk to the bottom of the sauce, where it’s purely decadent in amplified strings and dynamic twang. This is a pick-me-up, an uplifter, and a realignment of energy in the form of a disco party. "I was inspired by a nickname I was being called at the time of writing it: Chiki Baby. I viewed this song as a booster of confidence for whoever was listening. Like, yeah, I’ma dance in the mirror. I’m gonna take time for myself and make changes. That’s kind of the takeaway I wanted for the song". - J $ensei Since Chiki Baby has dropped, J $ensei has contributed more to his bedroom disco sub-genre with his release Rush and the re-release of a personal favourite (if you're connected to our IG, peep the pinned "Join the IYCM team post" song), PASA DE NADA. Both are just as enticing as Chiki Baby! Check out our curated Spotify playlist below, updated weekly with artists we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing, with this week's first play going to J $ensei's Chiki Baby. Nashville, TN, USAHe ain’t perfect, but he does his absolute best, without an S on his chest, and delivers it as the perfect feature for when you’re situated by a beach water front, driving slow while Jack Vinoy hits ad-lib high notes on ‘DIAMOND BEACH’. We’ve got another feel-good track that temporarily alleviates any mild grievances in life! Jack Vinoy serves relaxed vocals with a subtle distort over a wavy drum beat and extra smooth bass loop, which seems to deliver flashbacks of Sade’s - Nothing Can Come Between Us instrumentals; it’s elusive but gently there. DIAMOND BEACH is balanced with ambience for your sunset beach bonfires, cookouts, and porch kickbacks; the audible aura floats in the wind and creates an infectious vibe to the point of a no hesitation replay. It’s rhythmic jazzy-pop fusion slaps with a slight amount of indie sleaze. Jack Vinoy paints a narrative of navigating through every-day irritants by focusing on the positives, staying present, and taking a momentary break from responsibilities. It's about enjoying the thrills and joy surrounding you. Listeners are transported to a zone where reality and fantasy blur in the most eclectic way. It's sonically adventurous and lighthearted, yet vocally weighted with emotion. "Lyrically, DIAMOND BEACH is just a reminder for me to keep my head up. When I wrote it, there were a lot of little things that were getting to me, and writing this was a great reminder to keep it all in perspective". - Jack Vinoy The production quality by Cam Herring and Jack Vinoy on DIAMOND BEACH is nothing short of enjoyable. The decompressing soundscapes are coolly immersive, and there’s a subconscious element of impulse that seems to arise after a few replays, easing the mind of the mundane and encouraging exploration with this track acting as the soundtrack to all shenanigans. "The bulk of the production was done by my friend Cam Herring, and it was actually the first song we ever made together. The guiding vision for the song was to make something that felt light and warm. We were able to wrap up most of the production in a few hours one evening, and the next morning I tracked all the vocals and added some ear candy to the production. When I recorded the vocals for the track, I decided to call it DIAMOND BEACH, named after a beach of the same name in Iceland where icebergs wash up on the shoreline." - Jack Vinoy Jack has more music and shows on the way that will cover unreleased material. If you’re rocking with DIAMOND BEACH, check out his track EVEREST HEIGHTS which is another favourite of ours. Hopefully Jack Vinoy ends up with a few shows on Aussie shores, but until then, join us in mentally escaping the physical cold down under by hitting the link below. MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIAYou have officially met the Yin and Yang of this industry. Hawi is breaking down doors, smashing dishes, and serving up poetic pain and love with her track H.I.C.T.B (How I Came To Be), grab your nearest balaclava. She's bold, fearless, and penetrating; she's greatness in the making, music royalty with every push of her pen to pad. Hawi's articulation and accentuation vocally dominate; her husky flow inflects as she sings and spits her story of resilience. This is for the underdogs, the hustlers, and the grinders who are building from the ground up. The ones who fade to black, only to alchemize every inch of darkness into luminance, H.I.C.T.B is a song of internal and external evolution, respecting what was, and welcoming what will be. The verses are soul-aching and spirit-fighting; there's a sense of heartbreak that goes hand in hand with this sonic-blazing battle. Hawi is a solidified lyrical warrior through substance-filled bars and haunting vocals. Her creativity covers all corners; she's multidimensional, a musical chameleon that moulds to her art, which is evident on H.I.C.T.B. "I found the instrumental on YouTube by a producer named Rafrightnow. The video he used in the background illustrated and inspired the idea for this song. It was a snippet of Kendrick Lamar's music video N95, the ‘push up’ scene on the rooftop, on loop. As I kept staring at this image, I reflected on the hustle as I was sitting in my living room looking at the screen, and then the hook of ‘this is how I came to be, woah woah woah" instantly came to mind. The rest of the lyrics sprouted from the idea that in order to achieve something, you must put in hard work". - Hawi There's a dark, profound energy emanating from the piano sequence; the synthy echoes expel a harmony of deep horror as they interwine with the stoic percussion; it's layered, emotional, and lingering with duality. "I usually freestyle in terms of the sound and hook. In order to develop a specific sound element or idea, I listen to a certain artist in that specific genre. I was listening to artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Joey Badass, and J. Cole consecutively for H.I.C.T.B, this ensures I have a better understanding of the sound and rhythm as I alternate between different genres. As of now, I’ve been writing songs to tracks on YouTube. In the recording and mixing process, I've always been with MixedbyDaniel, since the beginning of my music journey." - Hawi Hawi embodies the passion of Kendrick, the versatility of Nicki, and the depth of Rapsody, and then channels all of this energy into an electrifying ball of artistry and regenerates it into her originality, which then pivots into a sky of pure stardom. "Songwriting commenced at age fifteen, and I never limited myself to a genre. My first EP during COVID-19 was during my Kiss-land and Triology everyday listening phase; this inspired my EP Redamancy. My goal for the start of 2022 was to release an EP every 10 weeks that depicted an interwoven story highlighting numerous genres. For instance, Redamancy focuses on the lack of finding a genuine lover, and AN OLD BUTTERFLY focuses on understanding that the love you seek from others must come from yourself first, hence why each title of the song reads out, Wanna go, soul search lonely gurl, or do you need some space cause nothing lasts forever? Then comes N.O.K.A; the sounds and rhythm are instantly uplifting while demonstrating the idea that ‘no one knows anyone’, including ourselves, and she’s in the process of actually loving herself and understanding that she must be loyal to herself". - Hawi The releases aren't stopping, but the story line and genre are changing, and you can expect Hawi to release her audible hostages soon. It's not long until the globe catches onto her; the question is, is she ready to launch on the worldwide stage? If you're asking IYCM, we'd say without ANY doubt that Hawi is ready. Jump into the rotation and join us in running up every track in the name of your musical highness, Hawi, but specifically H.I.C.T.B! |
