Zapping us out of reality and into a realm of creativity, Keith Kugo activates aural levitation, baring his soul on the synth-heavy track, Fantasy.
Coming off his EP Curiosity II, Fantasy sets the tone into the consistent cosmic theme heard throughout the project. If you close your eyes you'll embark on a wild trip. Fantasy is subtle, like micro-dosing, but strong enough to bring the five senses alive; it audibly emanates a slight feeling of vertigo, but it's pleasant and consenting unlike the condition itself.
Keith Kugo's deeply pitched vocals have a grounding effect during the mystical listening experience. Fantasy feels like it's straight off a Sci-Fi movie soundtrack; it's giving In Time vibes but more soulful, experimentally sonical, and painting a different narrative—one where escapism comes into question regarding love and mundane tasks in life.
"The writing process for fantasy wasn't as linear as most of the tracks on this EP. It was one of the first tracks produced but written last. I realised I wanted to talk about the cyclical nature of trying to find intimacy in life through routine and how we can become infatuated with fantasising over ideal circumstances over the reality of life's cycles" - Keith Kugo
Keith Kugo most definitely has a creative edge considering he wrote, produced, and engineered Fantasy. He created an astral swirl that unites ethereal production, meditative vocals, and transcendental synths.
"I was and have been heavily inspired by Sampha and James Blake. I love their intimate and soulful take on electronic music. I'd say Fantasy samples certain sonic directions found in Sampha's 'Reverse Faults', and James Blake's 'Are You Even Real?'" - Keith Kugo.
Curiosity II is part of a trilogy, and Keith Kugo will shortly release the final instalment. So, if you're just tuning in, you've got time to catch up with this full body of work before his next drop!!!
