FLORIDA, USAPlaying piano keys that hold a duality of softness and fierceness, YSA paints the town black and white with her foxy tones alongside Breagh Isabel with latest release, Space. Put simply, YSA just needs a little space, to take a step back, to hit the brakes - whatever it takes to meet on the same page, as she delivers colourful vocals draped in classiness and absorbed in feminine divinity. She aurally takes you back in time to an era of old-fashioned New York City, where the jazzy streets meet the sunsetting skyline. Space follows the lyrical narrative of two unaligned energies moving at a fairly different pace. When you unpack it, you have a love interest making big plans and thinking of the future, while the other is going with the flow and avoiding the pressure. It seems the only mutual ground found between the two is their liking for one another, but a grave commitment is at risk. "I wrote this song reflecting on a relationship from last year where I was needing some distance even though I really liked the person." - YSA The dynamic of Space makes you wonder if the anxious vs. avoidant attachment is present, especially since it's something much of society unconsciously faces. The production by YSA and Breagh Isabel creates an audible representation of the feeling of wanting space from someone who wants less of it, the slow instrumental undertones are met with buzzy layers. There is a resistance, a slight anxiousness in the sound, that depicts the imbalanced exchange between the two. "I wanted something jazzy, and another dope artist, Breagh Isabel, and I got into the studio and created this track. We didn’t have any song or production ideas in mind while writing; we just kind of went for it. I’m a big fan of R&B artists SZA, Hope Tala, and Snoh Aalegra. So thoughts are all influences for sure." - YSA YSA has been busy since her release of Space, with performances in Nashville as well as SXSW, and she's still on the move with more live shows in a state near you (if you're in the USA). If you're unable to see her live as of yet, join us as we continue to run up the plays on Spotify and all other streaming platforms. Enjoy Space, and keep YSA on your radar.
